Starting fresh on AWS
Has anyone done this?
I've had a personal AWS root account for years. I closed it recently because I keep getting charged between $39 – $60 a month for something. Call me stupid but I just closed my account and opened a new one. I don't use AWS (for personal projects) a lot and when I do it's mostly just for testing.
This all started after I tested a deployment for a web application. I can't recall what the hell I used to deploy it, but it created a some ec2s, a vpc, and some other infrastructure. No biggie. Just went in and (so I thought) delete the infra it created.
The next couple months went like:
- Gets bank notification of payment to Amazon Web Services for X amount
- Check AWS billing, find and delete unused infrastructure. Logout
- Repeat
AWS billing dashboard was showing VPCs as the major cost sink. I didn't have any VPCs left to delete!
What was left of my AWS account after going nuclear on it was not worth saving or spending time talking to an AWS rep. I closed the account.
Last month came and went without a payment to AWS.
I am happy.
